I have lost about half of my eyelashes and eyebrows so far – evenly, i.e. a general thinning. However, the outer half of my right eyebrow appears to have disappeared. For fuck’s sake.
Let me list my hair loss:
- Half of the aforementioned eyebrow
- About 80% of the hair on my head. I have a few immensely attractive ‘tufts’ hence the daily requirement to shave my head
- TMI but let’s say no more bikini waxes needed. Phew.
- Underarm hair pretty much gone
- General body hair – forearms and so on – gone
- My left lower leg – pretty much gone. But of course, my right lower leg not so much so – that would be too simple.
Latest chemo symptom is hot flushes. Lots of them. I am hoping exacerbated by the fact I was in a much hotter climate than I have been used to so will therefore subside when I get home. Hope being the operative word.
And hell, while I’m at it, here goes with a few of the other wild and wonderful facts of life with chemo:
- Feeling as if my body is not my own anymore. From bruises on my veins that would have made me proud back in my junkie days, to a sense (not entirely sure if real or imagined) of my muscles wasting away. Weird.
- Bleeding. I bleed easily and a lot – from nosebleeds (minor ones) to small cuts that won’t stop.
- Slower. I am slower mentally and physically. I am getting a little more accepting of that…but it dents my pride a lot
- Chemo taste and bad breath. Obviously worse at chemo times, but pretty constant
- Very, very dry skin. And super sensitive, always, but there are a couple of days post chemo where my skin all over just hurts
- Did I mention the half an eyebrow….
- Dehydrated a lot of the time – sometimes despite drinking liters of water.
- Bloated and uncomfortable – worse post chemo but a constant
- Periods seem to have stopped – along with the no bikini wax, there are clear pluses 🙂
- Lightheadedness. A lot. It’s what I imagine it’s like to be blonde.
- Nausea/weak stomach. The obvious chemo side effect but it tends to linger for a couple of weeks on and off.
- Tiredness. Immensely relieved by having slept the last 6 nights. Insane insomnia aside, there is a general fatigue.
To summarize, someone took me away and replaced me with an android that fell off the assembly line too early.
