Is when the chemo is due to start. That is unless I am eligible for a trial, the RIO trial, which I have decided to do if I can.

Here’s the technical bit – to be eligible I have to be ‘triple negative’ – i.e. negative for all 3 hormone receptors and/or BRCA (the breast cancer gene) positive – apparently the 2 things often go together. I know I am negative for one hormone, borderline for one (they are re-doing it) and waiting for results on the 3rd. I had the BRCA test as well  last Wednesday but will take a couple if weeks for those results. Overall in breast cancer, triple negative is not the greatest one to have – but if so it does eliminate the need for long term (5-10 year) hormone therapy, which I really would struggle with.

So, if I qualify, then I will do the RIO trial for 2 weeks, 5 day break then chemo. There have been good results with RIO in treatment of ovarian cancer, which is closely linked to breast cancer, and lots of other positive things that The Man very kindly researched for me.

Waiting for confirmation of my contract and therefore health insurance after the end of August, but moved ahead with the private appointment keeping all fingers and toes crossed.

Keeping everything crossed (I think) that you’re eligible for the trial. I say ‘I think’ because, obviously, it might not be the best form of breast cancer to have. But I hear what you’re saying about the hormone therapy. Anyway, we can’t influence what type it is – so, whatever the best form of treatment is for it, that is what you will have. And that’s what’s important xx

And I LOVE being able to read it all and be there in whatever way I can. This technology is bloody wonderful for this, and a great idea of yours to do it. I read every one of your posts and will continue to read every one. I’m going to read your last two posts later as Anto, Ma and I are taking advantage of what-passes-as-a-summer-day-in-Ireland (read: not raining) and going to Coole Park for the day. But I’ll be back 🙂 xxx
