Menopause, insomnia, chemo

24 hours since my, hopefully, last EC chemo. Doc update as follows:

  • He is really fucking starting to irritate me.
  • He feels (literally) that the lumps have shrunk and I am responding very well. Without wishing to put a downer on that, he did say that before and the radiologist said only a very, very small bit.
  • Next ultrasound in 4 weeks. NOT going alone then. Will also be starting the Taxol, weekly chemo then
  • The hot flushes are menopause. Chemo induced, but at my age likely to remain and not reverse post chemo. All good with me.
  • His aloofness/lack of engagement is leading me to feel like I just need to hurry up and get out during a visit with him. Absolutely not on.
  • He did recommend a strong sleeping tablet. And told me I could only get it from my GP….the (lovely) pharmacist in the chemo unit proved him wrong so I came home with some.
  • My veins are collapsing – apparently right on schedule as it happens after your 3rd chemo. So I will get a port – inserted under your skin near your heart. I was told some people don’t want it because it requires a general anesthetic – I asked could I have one every day. Insomnia speaking…

Today has been pretty hellish – I imagine the prior 6 week insomnia spell hasn’t exactly helped. I did sleep last night in bursts, I have slept today and crossing everything possible that I will keep sleeping for the next couple of days, day and night, to catch up. I took half a dose of my morning steroids and am going to stop them now. More contradictions on that – Mr Aloof doc said its OK to not take them, Ms Lovely pharmacist said there’s a high risk of the nausea hitting me if I do. But I have a lot of anti emetics and am hoping they will do as the need for sleep overrides all else presently.

oh for heaven’s sake…isn’t that the team supposed to SUPPORT you, not make things more complicated?!! I like Dr ISIS more and more.
The ultrasound – go there in a crowd indeed. And with earplugs.

Only you could get a doctor who needs a PR lesson from ISIS. And menopause – I hear you – been through it and out the other end! Yes, had it early. And don’t believe everything you hear – mine was pretty painless and at the other end I feel better than I have since I was 16 – all those yucky heavy hormonal mood swings I had every month, gone. I have a feeling, Trout, that you will come out of all this, feeling a whole lot healthier and as wise as an owl 🙂 xxx
