Amazing. I started off the day crying at 2am, had a truly horrible morning at work, and ending the day with chemotherapy, nurses and cake! Had to have pictures of course 🙂
Sadly, Dr ISIS not here so not in the pic, but the lovely oncology nurse Fadwa is the one sitting on my bed with the black hijab and the equally lovely resident doc is on the far left. The same doc who today wrote me a wonderful letter for work taking about the stress, how I am doing so well on chemo but clearly the work is causing the stress and I need a break. All true of course, but so very, very hard for me to admit to anyone and he was so gentle and supportive about it.
I will miss this lot.

Cake and smiling faces!! That helps a lot. And yes, I believe under California law you are entitled to time off. They are terrified of the word “stress” so…. Look at your contract though (if you have the energy). I have been working for my company for 11 years on an “at will” basis (meaning – they can get rid of me at any time), so kind of “contract.” However, if I were to file hardship and duress, they could not be seen to have fired me for this. People usually take about 90 days off at least. But then again, some people make a career out of that. Not you, of course. You have never felt “entitled.” But you know, this time, you absolutely are. Fuck them and the horse(s) they rode in on. xxx

Fantastic pics, they look like such a lovely lot. But no pic of Dr. ISIS??? Unforgivable! I really think, Trout, that maybe the simplest route is the route to go. If the docs can sign you off work because, quite understandably, you need a break to undergo treatment for cancer, please let them do it. Then you don’t have to go down legal routes, or any other complicated route, or even think about it. Just get signed off – please. It’s absolutely the right thing to do x

Sonia, Shivx is right…the letter should suffice. Do keep in mind what we spoke about on FB last night though and that way we can hopefully ascertain what your options might be, should your employer decide to become an ass. The letter is paramount. But your health, bodily and emotionally, is the most precious thing of all. And having just had a treatment, it is best you just chill. And eat cake 🙂

For once I find myself thinking “Mad Dog MacGowan is making perfect sense.” Just when you think things can’t get any more bizarre…. And you’ve also forced me into another first – communicating with friends through the poxy internet!
