Update from (lovely) surgeon

on

And on with the rollercoaster – but up this evening :).

So – met with Fiona, the surgeon I met with first at The Marsden. Still as great now as she was then. In short:

  • The written report from the ultrasound last Friday said no tumours left
  • When she felt, she said the remaining lump on the lymph node felt like scar tissue and not cancerous.
  • Will not known for sure until surgery if there are tumours and/or cancer cells for sure, but looking good
  • I agreed to go with initial biopsy of the lymph node that was affected by cancer and removal of the tissue where the breast lump was. While they get initial results during surgery – detection of cancer cells in the lymph node in particular or not – I won’t have further procedures until full results are back and I can discuss. Of course, hopefully I won’t have to have any further procedures at all
  • When they remove the breast tissue, they will check the area around for any remaining cancer cells. This is called clear margins, or not. The results of that take a few days
  • It was clear that while she cannot say for sure, she was pretty positive overall
  • Best case scenario, which is a distinct possibility, are no cancerous cells found at all, no lymph node removal and only a small part of breast tissue removed.
  • At present, I have a full and complete clinical response to chemo. If no cancer cells found, it will be a full and complete pathological response – the best outcome for now and the future.
  • Surgery is day surgery – I will likely have it on 4th April

It’s good news. Very good news in fact. I may even get some sleep tonight….

Trout, what fantastic news! I’ve just come back from 10 days away so just catching up with your posts now. The news on the cancer (or lack thereof) is absolutely fantastic! This is the major and only real news that matters. The work stuff – I’m speechless. For an organisation that’s meant to be in the business of humanity they’re making a mockery of the whole thing. But this is practical stuff that one way or another will be sorted. The real news is the zapping of your cancer – I never doubted it 🙂 🙂 xxxxx
